Based on the increasing demand for performance opportunities, ‘Movers & Shakers’ is an early evening, free event designed to give a platform to new, emerging talent on the burlesque and cabaret circuit. Unlike the majority of new-comer and hobbyist events, Movers and Shakers is produced by those with long standing expertise and success in the genre and the event places emphasis entirely on inclusive fun and community support….The Ministry of Burlesque were lauded as ‘The Movers and Shakers of the Burlesque World’ by the BBC and so it seems only fitting to bestow this moniker upon those emerging stars and hopeful new comers too. The event is for performers of all levels of experience so as to get that essential stage time and professional feedback - whether it’s old timers trying out a new act or new comers taking to the stage for the first time.
About Vendetta:
Putting the ‘Imp’ in ‘Impresario’ - the captain of the Scottish Movers and Shakers fleet is Vendetta Vain. An establish performer in Scotland and herself a graduate of the MoB Academy, Vendetta has been attending burlesque events since 2003 and performing since 2007. Her knowledge and passion for the burlesque and cabaret circuit in Scotland, together with her natural charm and confidence (both on and off stage!), make her the perfect candidate to keep everything running ship shape and Bristol fashion!
A Good Mission:
Not only is Movers and Shakers a real opportunity for aspiring new performers, but it is also working to preserve the history of the genre by helping to support the Britannia Panopticon Music Hall Preservation Trust. Located in Glasgow’s Trongate, the Britannia Panopticon is the UK’s oldest surviving music hall and was founded in 1857. It was the hub of popular entertainment in the vibrant Victorian Glasgow metropolis, and remained open until 1938. At present, the Trust is working to restore the music hall to its former glory and all guests at Movers & Shakers Scotland are asked to show their support for this grand old building.
So, if you would like to tread the boards in the same venue where a young Stan Laurel once made his debut, then contact Vendetta, and remember the MoB Motto….Together we Can Can!
